The school-friendly summary
- No website accounts: students do not submit names, email addresses, profiles, or classwork to Find the Note.
- No website ads or analytics: the classroom website does not use advertising trackers, analytics scripts, or cookies.
- Local microphone analysis: microphone audio is analyzed on the device and is not recorded, uploaded, or stored by Find the Note.
- Teacher-controlled sharing: a Classroom button sends only the lesson link the teacher chose, and only after the teacher clicks it.
For classroom use, we recommend the browser lessons and browser detector. The mobile apps are separate, consumer-supported products and may display advertising as described below.
1. What this notice covers
This notice covers the Find the Note website at findthenote.com, including its lessons and browser pitch detector, and the Find the Note mobile apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android.
2. Classroom website and lessons
The website has no sign-in system, student profiles, comment forms, gradebook, or assignment-submission system. Lesson pages are static files. Find the Note does not ask students for a name, email address, school, age, or student identifier.
The website does not set cookies and does not load advertising or analytics services. As with most websites, the hosting provider may create routine security and access logs containing information such as an IP address, browser type, requested page, and time of request. Find the Note does not use those logs to profile students or serve targeted advertising.
3. Browser pitch detector and microphone
The detector asks for microphone access only after a person presses Start listening. Audio samples are processed inside the browser by a locally served CREPE pitch-detection model. Find the Note does not record, upload, transmit, or store the microphone audio.
The detector displays an estimated note, frequency, confidence, and tuning distance in cents. Those live results remain in the current browser session and are not sent to Find the Note. Closing or reloading the page clears them.
A teacher or student can deny or revoke microphone permission in the browser at any time. The lessons remain readable without microphone access.
4. Google Classroom and external links
The Share in Classroom button opens Google Classroom with the selected student lesson URL. Find the Note does not receive a class roster, assignment, grade, or Google account information from that action. After a person chooses to open Google Classroom, Google’s terms and privacy practices apply.
Links to the Apple App Store, Google Play, and email also open third-party services only after they are selected. Those services may collect information under their own policies.
5. Mobile apps
The mobile apps do not require a Find the Note account. Their pitch detection uses microphone audio on the device; audio is not recorded or sent to Find the Note. The apps may store settings and note-history entries locally on the device.
The free mobile apps may show ads through Google Mobile Ads. Google’s consent tools are used where required, and iOS may present Apple’s tracking-permission prompt. The apps also offer a one-time purchase through Apple or Google to remove ads and unlock additional features. Google, Apple, and their service providers may process device, consent, advertising, diagnostic, and purchase information according to their own privacy policies. Find the Note does not receive full payment-card details.
6. Children and students
The classroom website is intentionally usable without a student account or direct submission of personal information. Teachers should share student-view lesson links rather than asking students to create accounts elsewhere. Find the Note does not knowingly ask children to send personal information through the website.
If you believe a child has sent personal information directly to Find the Note, contact us so we can review and delete it where applicable.
7. Changes and contact
This notice may be updated when the website, apps, or service providers change. The revised date will appear at the top of this page.
